Nicely implemented, it does fit the bill for fast and reliable calculations replacing paper notes. The combination of text and numbers as well as the available variable feature does allow to "sketch" verbous what-if scenarios … thats handy! Currently only the sub-total implementation is missing and somehow annoying, however, using the line feature is a workable workaround. Thumbs up.

The App Store version advertises support for Simplified Chinese, it would be great if that option was added to the preferences! And the app would be a lot more useful if there was a way to sum up all the rows of a @Section, like this… @Expenses Bread: 5€ Milk: 2€ @Donated EFF: 100€ @Income Salary: 1000€ Cash = @Salary - @Expenses - @Donated

I use this app almost every day for quick calculations, especially when they involve foreign currencies. Would not want to miss it anymore, it’s a lovely little app.

There are a lot of alternatives to Soulver, but none of them really compete on all of these key points: 1. You can save calculations to easily plug in new numbers 2. You can use natural language to describe your calculations 3. Its simple to use Getting all three points in one application really sells it. I hope the author continues to enhance it, and remove or allow configuration of annoyances like "sales per month" being auto-converted to Hz. Its a little rough around the edges yet, otherwise Id give it 5/5.

Ive been waiting a long time for something like this to come along. Its just like figuring stuff out on paper only faster and better. I can use variables, so it can work like a spread sheet, but its not so structured. I can just jot figures down as I think about them and put them together in a formula and out pops the answer. Good job to the developers. Al

If youre working with numbers, Soulver needs to be on your system and should be open. I use mine for keeping track of budgets, and being able to adjust figures month to month and see how they affect the overall picture feels like magic. This app is a great value.

I’ve never been a big fan of calculator apps on the Mac but this one is absolutely fantatic to use. It’s been one of my favorite app on my Mac since I bought it a few years ago. Absolutely recommended.

Unfortunatley, Soulver doesn’t support date calcualtions e.g., "Today - August 20, 1977 in days"

I use this app a lot. Very practical and intuitive. Great for saving well documented calculations templates that I can use later to solve problems just by changing the variables and saving under an appropriate name. Aside for a few needed aestetic touches here and there, everyone can find very practical uses for it and enjoy the benefit of the companion app for iPhones & iPads that work very well through iCloud. But since the last app update (I’m on a MacBook Pro mid 2012 running El Capitan), the app often hangs at launch and when clicked on again launches two windows. It also crashes frequently during use. Finally, every time I quit the app, an Apple report window pops up informing me that the app has crashed. While I can work around the bugs in this software (I’m a developer), I trust these issues will be resolved in an upcoming update (hopefully soon).

This calculator app is simply the BEST! So easy to use, saves to the cloud, also on iPhone & iPad, and with the formatting capabilities it allows you to make your data look REALLY great to easy-to-interpret for others. I’ve owned it for years now and have always enjoyed the regular updates of features from the committed developer. I also love the way the data is exportable (PDF & email) in the same viewing format as created within the app itself. Soulver is one of a few apps I consider to be a MUST HAVE.

Absolutely love this app – use it all the time. My one major complaint is that the interface feels dated with lots of pre-Mavericks style UI chrome.

I love this app and use it as my both my defauilt calculator and a replacement for doing many things I used to create spreadsheets for. I love that the software automatically retrieves current exchange rates when I do a conversion from one currency to another. I also love that it easily does binary to hexidecimal to decimal base conversion with ease. I highly recommend this for anyone who regularly uses a calculator, just wants an intelligent calculator with many functions, or wants a history of transactions like an adding machine will spit out.

it seems theres no motivation to implement some of the infinitely great potential this app has (both app and mac) due to lack of competition.. Ive sent the devs emails outlining what i think would be really useful, but there seem to be no plans other than acknowledging that theyd be good additions. Ive paid for both the iphone and mac app because this is a good basic app, but mostly because there is no suitable competitor. Three stars because its ok. four if they actually tried to improve it (like the UX on iphone! please allow resizing the vars sidebar its taking too much space). five if they succeed in improving it and actually care about adding more value to the apps at all. theres so much potential. honestly, Im inclined to build a competitor myself. Either mine will be better, or this app will improve: end result we all get to enjoy a better app.

Soulver is a nice formula calculating app with a very complete set of functions and units, easy interface and useful presentation format. I’ve used it for a few years now, and it keeps getting better. 5 stars. Still, I do have a couple of items on my wishlist: 1) better recognition and conversion of compound units. For example, the program ought to know that kN/m2 are the same as kPa. 2) a Random() function.

Dont waste your time with the built in Calculator app. Just use this. Handles quick calculations as well as simple budgets. What a calculator should be on a computer.
